“Royal Loader (The Impossible Heir)” is a Korean drama about the stories of three “minor leaguers” who dream of becoming “major leaguers.”

Han Tae-oh, a prodigy who scored in the top 0.1% of the national mock exam, has one weakness: his father is the murderer who killed his mother. Despite being a smart and intelligent elite, Han Tae-oh is unable to escape his life at the bottom because he is the “son of a murderer.” He supports his high school friend, Kang In-ha, and wants to rise to the highest place.

Kang In-ha, another figure who dreams of reaching the top with Han Tae-oh, is the third son of the “Kang Oh Group,” South Korea’s top conglomerate. Even though he appears to be living in a high place as the third son of a chaebol family, Kang In-ha is actually the illegitimate child of a chaebol family who was not recognized by his father. He was a high school friend of Han Tae-oh and, with Han Tae-oh’s brilliant mind, succeeded in entering South Korea’s top university. He starts the “Royal Loader Project” with Han Tae-oh to make the Kang Oh Group their own.

The Royal Loader Project seems to be complete with Han Tae-oh’s brain and Kang In-ha’s status, but another person appears before them. Na Hye-won, who is struggling due to her debt-ridden mother, sees hope in Kang In-ha and Han Tae-oh, whom she met at university, to escape her life at the bottom as the “daughter of a debtor.” Na Hye-won, who is as smart as Han Tae-oh, approaches them and plans to rise to a high place as well. She becomes a hidden figure in the “Royal Loader Project.”

The reason these people who are not inferior to others in their personal abilities have come to live as “minor leaguers” is because of their families. They live a life worse than their abilities because they are the “son of a murderer,” the “illegitimate child of a chaebol family,” and the “daughter of a debtor.” They do not give in to the bleak reality and strive to gain power by utilizing their abilities. There have been many Korean works that featured protagonists who were discriminated against for external reasons such as their origin or background, despite having outstanding abilities. Although it has become less common than in the past, it seems that this kind of drama still comes out because of the atmosphere of Korean society, which still focuses more on a person’s background than on the individual.
