In the past, divorce was considered a sin in Korea. Divorced people were often stigmatized and ostracized, making it difficult to remarry. However, these social attitudes have softened considerably in recent times. In the past, most people would not recommend divorce even if there were problems with their spouse.

The Korean drama “Queen of Divorce” tells the story of ‘Kim Sa-ra’, a divorce fixer who helps those suffering from malicious spouses. Kim Sa-ra ends up working as a ‘divorce fixer’ after she herself was forced to get a fake divorce and sent to prison because of her husband. She helps people who are suffering from malicious spouses like she did, much like she experienced herself. Kim Sa-ra's ultimate goal is to get revenge on her husband who betrayed her.

‘Dong Ki-jun’, who works with Kim Sa-ra, is a lawyer who tries to solve divorce issues through the law, but Kim Sa-ra tries to solve them physically, so a conflict is expected to arise from their differences in values. One interesting thing is that Kim Sa-ra and Dong Ki-jun were former lovers. It makes you wonder how their relationship will change as they work together to solve the case.

These days, Korean dramas often feature stories in which evil people are punished through private revenge, or where criminals are avenged by actions that are on the edge of the law. “Taxi Driver”, “The Killing Vote”, “Vigilante”, “The Glory”, and others are examples of such dramas. The popularity of these private revenge dramas can be seen as a reflection of the public's dissatisfaction with the judicial function of Korean society. Whether “Queen of Divorce” can be considered a private revenge drama remains to be seen, but based on the theme of ‘killing malicious spouses’, it is clear that the drama has the potential to deliver a sense of catharsis to those who are struggling with real-life relationships.
