To go back in time and prevent his father's accident, the Korean drama 'Sparkling Watermelon'

The Korean drama “Twinkling Watermelon” tells the story of a boy who can hear sounds among his deaf family, and his time travel journey.

Eun-gyeol, the only non-deaf member of a family where his mother, father, and older brother are all deaf, grew up familiar with sign language and often acted as an interpreter for his family. Due to having a deaf family, Eun-gyeol was bullied and faced hardships. However, he met an elderly man who ran a musical instrument shop and learned to play the guitar, developing a dream of becoming a musician. When Eun-gyeol became a high school student, he told his father about his dream of becoming a musician. However, his father didn't acknowledge his dream, assuming that he was merely drawn to music because of his academic struggles. After arguing with his father, Eun-gyeol left home and was about to break his guitar in anger when he saw a music shop named ‘La vida Music’ appear before him. As Eun-gyeol left the shop after selling his guitar, the shop master made a suspicious remark: “Be careful on your way out.” After leaving the shop, Eun-gyeol found himself in 1995.

The person who provided the most support to Eun-gyeol, who suddenly found himself living in 1995, was Chan. Eun-gyeol became interested in Chan, a student who was part of a band at school. Eun-gyeol lived with Chan's family, who ran a boarding house, and became Chan's tutor. However, Chan was actually Eun-gyeol's father. Shocked to see his father, whom he thought was congenitally deaf, able to hear and speak, Eun-gyeol learned that his father had become deaf due to an accident. He then dedicated himself to preventing his father's accident.

But there was one problem. After the accident, Eun-gyeol's father, Chan, had learned sign language and met Eun-gyeol's mother, eventually marrying her. If Eun-gyeol prevented his father's accident in the past, his parents would never have met, and Eun-gyeol himself might cease to exist.

In fact, Eun-gyeol wasn't the only one who time-traveled to 1995. Eun-yu, who also time-slipped to 1995 using the same method as Eun-gyeol, was a pessimistic girl who had contemplated giving up on life. Because of her striking resemblance to her mother, Se-gyeong, in her younger years, Eun-yu decided to pretend to be her mother in the past. Living as Se-gyeong, she aims to help her mother fulfill her first love and prevent her own birth by approaching Chan, her mother’s first love.
