In the final scene of “The Fiery Priest,” the phrase 'WWB' (meaning 'We Will be Back') was included, hinting at the possibility of a second season. Director Lee Myung-woo continued to mention a potential Season 2, and it was officially confirmed in 2023 during the SBS Drama Awards through a comment made by the lead actor, Kim Nam-gil, who was a presenter at the event. “The Fiery Priest (열혈사제)” Season 2 is scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2024.

Season 1 aired in 2021, and Season 2 followed in 2023. Both seasons were highly successful. The ending of Season 2 hinted at a possible continuation, fueling anticipation for a Season 3 among viewers. Notably, actor Lee Je-hoon, who plays the lead character ‘Kim Do-gi,’ has repeatedly expressed his affection for the “Taxi Driver (모범택시)” series. He’s mentioned hoping to see it develop into a long-running series like American dramas, or even explored the possibility of spin-offs or a movie adaptation. Furthermore, during the 2023 SBS Drama Awards, he stated in his acceptance speech for the grand prize, ‘I will greet you again as Kim Do-gi,’ essentially confirming Season 3.

Lee Jung-jae, who played the lead role in the first season, will return, along with Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, Kang Ha-neul, Yang Dong-geun, Park Gyu-young, and Jo Yu-ri, who have all confirmed their participation. When Season 2 was announced in 2022, director Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that it would be released during the Halloween season of 2024 and also announced that Season 3 is in progress. Even more surprising is the fact that the production budget for “Squid Game (오징어게임)” Season 2 is estimated at 100 billion won, making it the highest production budget in Korean drama history. It remains to be seen whether it will surpass the success of Season 1. We eagerly await its release.
